You The Constituent

You The Constituent

As you learn about government and politics, it’s easy to be impressed by the importance of the people  elected to represent us. While these officials have an enormous responsibility, YOU, THE CONSTITUENT, are the most important part of the government.

In America, democracy means a government of the people, by the people, and for the people and you are the people! Those we elect are elected to represent and that is a serious obligation. But in order for them to do a good job, the people (that’s you), must be informed and involved. Every person who enjoys this amazing democracy must make the effort to know all sides of issues, think independently,  and support your opinion with facts. You must also make an effort to speak with people who think  differently and to be respectful of their right to have a different opinion.

While many Nicky Fifth readers are too young to vote, the act of voting is only one act. In between  elections we must stay informed and involved, reaching out to our representatives and participating.

Remember, YOU, THE CONSTITUENT, are the most important part of a successful democracy. It  doesn’t matter what party you support or if you are independent and support issues, as long as you get informed and then get involved.
